Understanding Automations
What an automation does, and what it is allowed to do.
What an automation is
A rule that watches for a trigger in your workspace and runs one or more actions when it fires.
An optional add-on
Automations is an optional add-on available to Growth, Scale and Enterprise plans. An Owner or Admin activates it in Settings > Add-ons; until then it is not available. Deactivating it keeps every automation and its history, and reactivating brings them back.
Live rules run on their own
An enabled automation runs automatically when its trigger fires. Review the actions before you switch a rule on, especially rules that message a customer.
Read-only workspaces
If the workspace becomes read-only because of billing, existing automations are preserved but stop running until access is restored.
